Picayune Skatepark Project
Picayune, Mississippi | GCSA Supported Project

Picayune skaters are one step closer to having a park of their own. Led by local residents Jacob Guthrie and Pete Taggard, the Picayune Skatepark Project is working to create a safe, welcoming place for skateboarders, BMX riders, roller skaters, and the wider community.

What started as two neighbors’ dream has grown into a community effort with support from Mayor Jim Luke and other city leaders. The project has secured a $120,000 Recreational Trails Program grant through the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks. Designed by Fifth Pocket Skateparks, the park is planned as more than a place to skate. Organizers envision a true “third space” where young people can gather, stay active, and express themselves.

Funding will come largely from grants and donations from local businesses, and every contribution helps move the project forward.

The Gulf Coast Skateparks Association is proud to support the Picayune Skatepark Project and the local leaders working to bring a new place to skate to Pearl River County. Stronger local scenes build a stronger skate community across the Gulf South.
